POSITION SUMMARY:        

The EHS Coordinator supports the implementation and administration of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs for the Costa Rica manufacturing operation. Working closely with the Facilities & Maintenance Engineer, this role helps ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company standards through inspections, training, incident investigations, contractor safety, and continuous improvement initiatives, while promoting a safe and healthy workplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •   Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with company policies, corporate standards, and applicable local regulations.
  •  Coordinate workplace accident reporting and follow-up, including the administration of the INS Workers' Compensation Insurance (Riesgos del Trabajo) process, RT Virtual platform, required documentation, and communication with regulatory agencies and healthcare providers, as applicable.
  •  Conduct routine workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and safety observations, following up on corrective actions to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
  •  Coordinate incident reporting and investigations, supporting root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  •  Coordinate EHS training programs, including new hire orientation, contractor inductions, periodic safety training, and employee awareness initiatives.
  •  Maintain EHS documentation, records, permits, and regulatory reports, ensuring information is accurate, current, and readily available for audits and inspections.
  •  Support environmental compliance activities, including waste management, chemical management, environmental monitoring, and other site sustainability initiatives, as applicable.
  •  Partner with the Facilities & Maintenance Engineer to ensure maintenance activities, contractor work, and facility projects are performed in compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety requirements.
  •  Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills, emergency response equipment inspections, and participation in emergency response programs.
  •  Monitor EHS performance metrics, prepare reports, and recommend improvement opportunities to strengthen safety performance and regulatory compliance.
  •  Support cross-functional teams during site startup, audits, regulatory inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives while performing other Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities as assigned

ESSENCIAL QUALIFICATIONS:  

  •   Technical Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  •  Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting Environmental, Health & Safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment. 
  •  English proficiency at B2 or above, with the ability to communicate effectively with global teams. 
  •  Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard identification, and incident investigations. 
  •  Experience coordinating EHS training, contractor safety, and regulatory compliance activities. 
  •  Experience maintaining EHS documentation, records, and reports for audits and regulatory inspections.
  •  Working knowledge of Costa Rican Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety regulations. 
  •  Knowledge of Costa Rica's Workers' Compensation Insurance (INS – Riesgos del Trabajo) processes, including workplace accident reporting, RT Virtual administration, and regulatory requirements.
  •  Knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes. 
  •  Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or other EHS management systems. 
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

PREFFER QUALIFICATIONS:  

  •   Experience within the Medical Device or another highly regulated manufacturing industry.
  •  Previous experience supporting manufacturing startups, greenfield operations, or facility expansions.
  •  Knowledge of ISO 13485, Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Operational Excellence methodologies.
  •  Experience supporting FAT/SAT activities, equipment validation, and manufacturing transfers.
  •  Project Management certification or formal training is considered an asset.
